The Artifex

/home webmail ssh info

supported protocols Hunter, 1/26/04 [more]

For the sake of security, one may no longer connect to the artifex using:

telnet

pop [unencrypted]

smtp [unencrypted]

ftp

Apple Filesharing Protocol

Fortunately, safer versions of nearly all of these protocols are available, along with clients for most. They are resepectively:

ssh. putty  [Windows]
macssh [MacOS 9]
ssh [Unix & MacOSX]
Java  [ssh.artifex.org]

pop [unencrypted]

smtp [unencrypted, coming later this week]

sftp Filezilla  [Windows]
WinSCP [Windows]
sftp [Unix & MacOS X]
Fugu [MacOS X]

The encrypted versions of POP and SMTP both use encryption certificates. To avoid having to approve the Artifex's encryption certificate every time you check mail, you'll want to install it on your machine. It's actually really easy. If this is something you want to do, talk to Jack [jarusl].
